In PIM, metal powders are mixed with plastic binders, when heated, they become viscous slurry. And they are injected into moulds, and then are subjected to debinding and sintering. There will be shrinkage in parts. Sintered parts could be drilled, polished, heated, other secondary treatments as requirements of clients.
Powder injection molding has broken the limitation in geometrically complex parts of conventional powder metallurgy technology, which is quite suitable for mass production of small complicated parts with tight tolerance, and other specific requirements. Powder injection molding is able to replac conventional but complex processing while making high precision parts. Powder injection molding technology could achieve a thickness of 1mm and a small hole of R 0.5mm easily.
The request in the market and the development of technology has made powder injection molding popular in the world.
